After completing his college education in horticultural production and environmental technology, with a specialization in agri-environment, Pierre carried out geomatics and remote sensing tasks using infrared photos on behalf of the technological innovation service at the Institut de technologie agroalimentaire, La Pocatière campus. During this period, he also participated in several projects relating to precision agriculture and remote sensing. Subsequently, he worked for the Centre d’expertise sur les produits agroforestiers (CEPAF) on the establishment of value-added plants and fungi. He joined Biopterre in 2007 where he worked, among other things, on the isolation of fungal strains. He also tested and helped develop crop control systems for various saprophytic forest fungi, including shiitake and red wine Stropharia.
Key Achievements:
- Isolation and multiplication of native fungal strains (specialty: saprophytic basidiomycetes)
- Testing and development of crop management for various saprophytic fungi in outdoor and indoor environments
- Cartographic analysis and remote sensing of forest stands favourable to various non-timber forest products including edible fungi
- Inventory and field validation of various bioproducts in remote northern environments
